About Sue Emerson
I have been running my own private counselling practice for over ten years starting in Crawley, West Sussex and for the past eight years running my practice from home in Hurstpierpoint.
My foundational approach is humanistic valuing a person's uniqueness and individuality. I work in a person centred way which means that I believe in providing an atmosphere of non judgement, unconditional positive regard and empathy in the counselling relationship.
Within this framework, I also offer the opportunity to use other approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Transactional Analysis, Narrative therapy and Creative therapy.
In addition to working with individuals, I also offer couple counselling. Couple counselling can offer the potential to support you in improving communication, resolve problems or issues causing stress between you, restore love and commitment and make decisions that might be best for you as a couple for the longer term. I started off my experience in this area over four years ago whilst training and working in a placement with Relate in Crawley and carried this on in my private practice.
Alongside my private practice, I have also been working for the past ten years as a Senior Counsellor for a bariatric consultancy. This has enabled me to gain extensive experience of working with obesity.
As a therapist, I am consistently looking to professionally increase my knowledge and skills through further CPD.
I belong as a registered member to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I follow their Ethical Framework for good practice and uphold their guidelines within my own standards of practice. These guidelines can be accessed on the BACP website.
